A life of giving, unselfish living, a leader through and through;
Planning forward day by day, the environment to renew.
Few people make such a mark, few people have the drive, to answer the call “Come mend our wall” or “make herb gardens in a wheel”
The evidence is there in Colwyn and other

The key to our success
rests in people like you,
who embody the spirit of greatness
by saying, "Yes I can, and so can you!"
Thanks for your inspiring dedication
and tremendous example to the world.
Now that your work is finished,
we say good bye with sad yet grateful hearts.
We want to thank you for your dedication,
and being there from the very start.
Words cannot convey our gratitude
for your tremendous contribution.
Thank you so much
for all of your hard work
and to bear witness to your passion
was an unexpected perk.
We never could have asked
for a more dedicated volunteer
and words cannot express
how grateful we are to have you here.
It is a pleasure and a privilege to know and work with you.

Tributes for Colwyn Bay man who inspired bloom title bid Oct 1 2009 North Wales Weekly News TRIBUTES have been paid to the hard work of an Old Colwyn volunteer who passed away after Colwyn Bay was named the second most beautiful green town in the UK. After winning the annual Wales in Bloom award for the eighth year running in August the town scooped the runner-up spot in the larger and more exclusive Britain in Bloom competition this week. Towns and villages can enter by invite only and Colwyn Bay was awarded the prestigious silver gilt in the coastal section of towns with a population over 12,000. But tributes were paid to the man behind the success who passed away in August. Cliff Prout turned out to meet the competition judges just days before he lost his battle with cancer. As the chairman of the Old Colwyn Environment Federation, Cliff helped raise around a million pound in accessing grants and lottery money and helping his village and Colwyn Bay gain success in countless environmental competitions. Old Colwyn councillor Cheryl Carlisle is a member of the Colwyn in Bloom committee and said the prize was testament to Cliff’s hard work. “Cliff was the inspiration behind this prize,” she said. “Cliff put his life and soul into all these beautiful green spaces and Colwyn Bay. His dedication and enthusiasm raised over a million pounds to restore and up-grade green areas. “He will be smiling down over us all, it is a heck of an achievement, and it was only two days before his death he turned out to meet Britain in Bloom judges. With his legacy we can win gold next year in his memory.” The award follows work by the town’s residents, schoolchildren and voluntary groups on numerous environmental projects. A record number of businesses in the town also purchased hanging baskets and troughs from Rhos-on-Sea’s Bryn Euryn Nursery; a team of volunteers with learning disabilities. Ingrid Lewis is Colwyn Bay’s town centre manager and chairwoman of the Colwyn in Bloom effort and was delighted with the prestigious award. “To be invited to participate in the Britain in Bloom competition is an immense honour that few towns ever realise,” she said. “The real winner however is the wider Colwyn Bay community who have worked together in partnership to achieve this positive outcome. This hard work and sheer enthusiasm of so many community, social and business groups, individuals and the public sector should be applauded.”
